Crab Apple

Posted by Lesley (Lincoln, United States) on 23 April 2009 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio.

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is pressed
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are written by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

~Joyce Kilmer, "Trees," 1914

@MontereyJohn: And guess where I am today? St. Louis! My husband's here on business, so I decided to tag along. First time visiting this city, so I'm ready with my camera. Now if it'd stop raining!

Absolutely stunning, Les! The colors are amazing. We had a crabapple in our yard as children, too. We called it "second base" during backyard whiffle-ball games.
