@john4jack: I have been known to sit out on the deck for a VERY LONG time waiting for a bird to return! It took forever to get a hummingbird shot that I'd been trying for for well over a week.

With regard to the noise (grain), if you are using Photoshop, I have a wonderful add-on called Dfine. It is really simple to use, doesn't cost an arm and a leg, and gets the job done 95% of the time.
